Along with unceasing economic boom and continuous improvements in medical care,Chinahas already entered an aging society. Seniors the age of 60 and over exceed 10% of the population, with over 1,130,000 in the city ofNanjing. Among the elderly inNanjing, 10% are without teeth. Among the 10% without teeth, 10% are considered elderly without family, poor low-income seniors, or seniors who have returned to poverty due to illness. They all generally lack knowledge of dental health care, live with scarce income and do not have the money for illness. Many of the senior citizens cannot help but endure hardship without teeth, some of which brings pain from diseases and illness in the digestive system. “Dental Care Service for the Elderly”aims to help these patients by allowing them to undergo installation and repair of artificial teeth, helping patients to regain the ability to chew and restore their facial beauty. By allowing more of the elderly to enjoy good food, they can enjoy their later years. Under these circumstances, the YMCA of Nanjing outside aid, collects funds, and carries out a joint launch of “Dental Care Service for the Elderly” public welfare program withJiangsuProvince’s dental hospital. For the past three years, every year 100 poor elderly people receive free installment of artificial teeth.
